Intern Spotlight: Sophie Sharp
Joining our Finance team this summer working on our sustainability audit is Sophie Sharp. Sophie Sharp is a rising sophomore at Santa Clara University majoring in accounting with a minor in environmental studies.
This summer Sophie is combining two of her passions, the environment and business, and is excited to be working alongside the finance team on Prime 8’s environmental audit for Microsoft.
Outside of school Sophie loves to spend time with friends and family, two younger brothers, and her two much loved dogs. Sophie loves to travel and has recently returned from a youth sustainability conference in Barcelona which focused on focused on sustainability, learning, and taking action for a better future.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I love the ocean and making an impact. I am an advanced scuba diver with a passion for coral. Seeing what is happening to our oceans around the world is what inspires me to be part of the solution instead of the problem.
What is your role this summer?
This summer I am primarily working in Sales under Tom and Drew.
What has been your favorite part during your internship with Prime 8 so far?
I love being able to meet so many amazing people and see what they do on a day-to-day basis. I have made so many amazing connections and learned so much.
Why did you choose to pursue an internship with Prime 8?
I was born into the Prime 8 family and grew up around the office. After talking with my parents about how when I graduate, I want to work on reducing carbon emissions and create an environmental consulting firm they told me that this was something Prime 8 was tackling right now. This internship is perfect for me, and I am doing my dream job already.
What would you say to another potential intern considering an internship with Prime 8?
Take advantage of every opportunity! There are so many insanely talented people who work at Prime 8 and every one of them is eager to help you learn. The Prime 8 culture fosters such an amazing learning environment where you don't need to be worried about asking a stupid question or saying something wrong.
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I do not need to declare my major until the end of this school year but right now I am an accounting major with an environmental studies minor and a sustainability pathway. I am also very interested in marketing so we will see what major I decide after taking more intro classes this year.
What was your dream job when you were growing up? What is your dream job now?
My dream job growing up was a horse trainer which is very different from what I am doing now. I went from horse trainer, to shark marine biologist, to environmental consultant. I want to reduce carbon emissions and help other companies evaluate their impact and reduce it.
What do you enjoy most about summer?
I love swimming in Lake Washington and hanging out with friends in the sun! I also have two gorgeous white golden retrievers who I love hanging out with, they are great listeners.
