Intern Spotlight: Charlie Miller
Charlie currently a student at Boston University entering her sophomore year in the Fall of 2020. She is earning her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She joined the Prime 8 family as a part of our college internship program this summer and took charge of a key piece of our modern marketing initiative.
She gained incredible insights into the business world during her time here by taking on meaningful research projects and learning from company mentors and leaders. She is excited to take all that she learned into her bright future. We chatted with Charlie about her internship, lessons she learned along the way and her favorite summer activities.
What was your favorite part about interning for Prime 8?
I enjoyed being able to meet everyone and get to know different people’s career paths. In addition, being able to work closely in a team provided wonderful support and comfort for me while I was learning new things in my internship.
How do you feel Prime 8 has prepared you for your future?
My internship has taught me a great deal about the basics of business that isn’t necessarily taught in the classroom. I learned just how important communications is across every area of the company from sales to marketing to recruiting. Everyone needs to work cohesively as a collective unit. Much of my work during my internship was research and through that, I learned how helpful data is to make good decisions for the business.
What was your dream job when you were growing up?
I wanted to be astrophysicist!
Why did you choose to pursue an internship with Prime 8?
I knew that marketing was something I wanted to pursue later in life and after digging into who Prime 8 is as a company, I found that it would be a great first business internship. Prime 8’s values also really aligned with what I would look for in a job when I graduate college in a few years.
How did you keep a work life balance during your internship?
I kept my head down and really focused throughout the workday while collaborating with my team. That way, when the workday was done, I was able to have time to enjoy with family and friends.
What would you say to another potential intern considering an internship with Prime 8?
I would say you should absolutely take on an opportunity for an internship at Prime 8. The company has the perfect balance of professional work and family culture. I felt so supported by everyone I met. Prime 8 is different from other companies because they give you responsibility and trust you with important work. It was this atmosphere that helped me challenge myself to learn every day. When I reflect back on my time at Prime 8 I don't just remember all the work I did, but the people I met and the connections I fostered. I will always be grateful for my internship at Prime 8 because of their kindness, determination, and encouragement.
What are some skills you developed in your internship?
I have increased my confidence in public speaking and meeting with people who are on the leadership team. I’ve also become better at providing insights and analysis by sifting through data to make good decisions. I improved on my time management skills; I found it helpful to get into a good habit of planning out my day and what I needed to accomplish.
What is your morning routine?
I like to keep it simple. I set about 20 alarms in the morning! I get up, get ready for my day and make a cup of coffee.
What are your top three favorite summer activities?
Hiking, traveling, and swimming in the lake. To keep myself busy this summer in quarantine I collaborated with a friend to launch our own eyewear company. We developed an ecommerce site and I used skills I learned in my internship to create a promotional video.
What are you most looking forward to this upcoming school year?
I am looking forward to being in the classroom, even if it’s one or two times per week with the pandemic still happening. I am excited for that college campus feel and getting to be in community with other students and collaborate.
