Maximize Business Results with a Resilient Planning Model

An effective Rhythm of Business (RoB) goes beyond having the right meetings, with the right people, on a useful schedule: it is a vital mechanism for line of sight into business alignment across teams and collective performance against metrics. A team that executes RoB properly is proactive, informed by decision analytics, and effectively leverages people and budget resources. They can adapt quickly as business requirements change.

Here’s how Prime 8 helped a large organization at a global software giant optimize RoB with a long-term business performance model.

The Problem: Reorganization of Six Leadership Teams Leads to Ineffective Business Planning and Outcomes

The client’s organization is composed of six different leadership teams, each managing a rapidly growing portfolio of business.

Constant and rapid growth left an RoB vacuum and created communication and planning barriers between the leadership of the various teams. Despite valuing line of sight into each other’s work to identify strategic overlap, share data, and target common goals - these teams found themselves working more in a silo than as collaborative as desired.

Exponential growth caused these teams to outgrow existing tools. They were soon using one-off opportunistic solutions such as cumbersome Excel sheets for business tracking, manual reporting over email, and other unscalable processes. The team struggled with:

  • Sharing business requirements to identify areas of strategic overlap.

  • Identifying cross-functional opportunities for collaboration against shared goals.

  • Establishing, institutionalizing and reporting objectives and key results (OKRs).

  • Establishing and maintaining an approach to shared planning.

The Solution: Long-Term, Resilient Business Planning Model

Prime 8 embedded with the org and collaborated with the Corporate CVP’s Chief of Support Staff to maintain alignment while defining and implementing an RoB framework. Here’s how we leveled up business planning for these teams.

  • First, Prime 8 identified effective areas to reorganize communication, align decision-making, and improve RoB cadence. This began the process of breaking down silos that were limiting the six leadership teams.

  • Then, Prime 8 presented solutions that solved for long-term business planning. Using maturity models, we built flexibility into the solutions to allow teams to advance their approach over time as they built experience and confidence at each stage.

  • Finally, Prime 8 created, designed, and rolled out a comprehensive RoB playbook with a detailed template and trained teams to leverage new processes that brought clarity to communication.

The Result

All six leadership teams in the org have adopted the Prime 8 Rhythm of the Business (RoB) playbook and are using Prime 8 templates to create impactful tracking, resolve critical actions, and remove barriers to success.

The core benefit that Prime 8 brought to the team was implementing RoB with better templates and clearer reporting. It’s a repeatable, RoB planning system that provides the foundation to innovate, grow, and generate consistent results.
